on the Geopolitics of Outer Space and otherpressing research topics in the field of international politics

With growing geostrategic and economic importance, space has long since become the fifth domain of international politics, alongside land, sea, air and cyberspace. However, research and debates about this important theme are still at the very beginning. The AIA NRW targets to open up an interdisciplinary platform and initiate discussions and collaborations in the field of Outer Space Affairs

Applications on other pressing research questions in the field of International Politics are also welcome.

The AIA NRW offers fellowships (buy outs and stipends) for outstanding scholars and practitioners to spend time in an inspiring research environment in Bonn-Bad-Godesberg to discuss pressing research questions in the field of international politics. Senior and young scholars from all academic disciplines holding at least a doctoral degree, and practitioners from politics, business and civil society are invited to apply for:

Fellowships of the duration of three to ten months at the AIA NRW in Bonn.

Application is possible on two tracks:

(a) Academic Track (for senior and junior scholars)
Applicants are expected to submit a letter of motivation and a proposal of their envisaged academic project at the AIA NRW (max. 6 pages including an abstract), a brief CV (2 pages max.) and a list of publications and electronic copies of either three reviewed journal publications or one individually authored book. Obligatory components of the proposal should be the guiding research questions, a brief summary of the state of research in the respective field, a specific working plan and targeted outputs. It should also reflect on the expected added value of the stay in Bonn in the particular environment of AIA NRW. Furthermore, a filled form for applicants is requested (application form) Both individual applications and tandem applications are welcome.

(b) Practitioner’s Track (for experts from politics, business and civil society)
Applicants are expected to submit a letter of motivation and a description of their envisaged project at the AIA NRW (max. 6 pages including an abstract) and a brief CV (2 pages max.). The proposal should detail planned activities during the time at the Academy and targeted outputs. It should reflect on the expected added value of the stay in Bonn in the particular environment of AIA NRW. Furthermore a filled form for applicants is requested (application form). Both individual applications and tandem applications are welcome.

Fellowships include a buy out (compensation costs for the home university or institute) or a stipend on the basis of previous income, housing for the fellows and their families and coverage of travel expenses.
