Climate Policy Manager (m/f/x)
Mission of the role:
To be a reference point of knowledge and expertise within the Climate Change and Energy (CC&E) team in the area of EU Climate Change policy matters whilst providing support to the specific Network of Experts on perimeters defined each year by the CC&E Programme Council (Emission Trading System, Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism, Carbon Removals…).
Reporting to the Executive Director Climate Change and Energy, you will provide input to the development and implementation of the Cefic Strategy for Energy & Climate Policies and the identification of priority issues. You will have a pivotal role in defining Cefic’s positions in the context of the Commission Clean Industrial Deal.
Are you inspired by these responsibilities?
In support to the Executive Director Climate Change and Energy, you will:
- Mediate and coordinate thematic Issue Teams or Network of Experts according to PC priorities (i.e. Emission Trading System, Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism, Carbon Removals…);
- Establish positions then define and implement corresponding advocacy plans, in collaboration with Cefic members and accordance with Cefic governance rules;
- Advocate on these positions before the European institutions;
- Provide inputs on relevant topics to the Climate Change & Energy Programme Council and to the Leadership Team.
You will also:
- Contribute to PA activities with relevant Cefic’s stakeholders (Institutions, Academics, NGOs and think tanks) and represent Cefic in public hearings, stakeholders’ events;
- Anticipate emerging key CC&E topics; propose or launch initiatives in order to properly assess and/or advocate on them;
- Leverage adequately Cefic internal resources and competencies relevant to each topic (other PC, Sector groups, Fora);
- Develop, liaise, and cooperate the Cefic’s network towards the European Institutions while representing Cefic Members in public fora and stakeholder’s consultation platforms.
Can you make the difference?
The successful candidate will be a highly experienced professional who demonstrates the following experience, competencies, and personal qualities:
- Master’s degree in Political science, EU Policy or similar;
- A minimum of 3 – 5 years of demonstrated experience working on Climate Change regulatory issues;
- Knowledge and understanding of the chemical sector would be an advantage;
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to translate complex legal concepts into layman language;
- Strong interpersonal and networking skills and the ability to network and build relations in an international context;
- A self-starter who is able to work independently and in a multi-functional team and a multicultural environment;
- Strong project management skills, service and results-oriented;
- Ability to work under pressure and to prioritize whilst managing multiple tasks;
- Passionate about conscientious work and attention to detail;
- Full proficiency in Microsoft Office tools;
- Full professional proficiency in English (written and oral) additional European languages are a definite asset;
- Prepared to live in Belgium (Brussels).
