Lobby & Advocacy Coordinator (m/f/d)

The Clean Clothes Campaign European Coalition is looking for a European Lobby and Advocacy coordinator 2,5 days per week, based in Belgium, starting a.s.a.p.

Clean Clothes Campaign (CCC) is dedicated to improving working conditions and supporting the empowerment of workers – most of them women – in the global garment and sportswear industry. In the more than 30 years of our existence, an effective global network of more than 230 trade unions and NGOs has been created. Members and partners within the CCC global network are committed to a shared Global Strategic Framework, and cooperate in global working groups, as well as through national and regional coalitions. CCC Europe is one of the 4 regional coalitions of the global network. The Clean Clothes Campaign European Lobby and Advocacy Coordinator will coordinate lobby and advocacy efforts collaborating with members and partners in 26 European countries.

The European Lobby and Advocacy coordinator is employed by the Dutch member of Clean Clothes Campaign (Schone Kleren Campagne). The Lobby and Advocacy coordinator will be based in Belgium and work closely with the Coordinator of the CCC European regional coalition.

Job description

The overall responsibility of the European lobby and advocacy coordinator is to strengthen, broaden and improve the CCC European coalition’s lobby position in line with the CCC’s vision mission and global strategy. This includes:

Strengthening the Lobby & Advocacy impact of the European Coalition

To plan, coordinate and implement Lobby & Advocacy activities within the European Coalition in order to implement the strategy and priorities of the European coalition. Priorities include living wage, health and safety, just transition and binding regulation and legislation on companies, e.g. relating to EU mandatory human rights due diligence.

Activities that the European lobby and advocacy coordinator will have to carry out include:

• monitor key policy developments based on the priorities of the European coalition;
• pro-actively engage and maintain relationships with key decision-makers and allies in the labour and human rights movement;
• develop key lobby messages, talking points and briefing in coordination with the European coalition members, as well as represent CCC Europe at meetings;
• supporting members and partners in lobby efforts towards EU institutions;
• supporting members and partners in the coalition from non-EU member states.

Communicate with the European Coalition and participate to the international CCC network

• Communicate to the European coalition relevant developments, upcoming initiatives and opportunities for engagement;
• To collaborate and coordinate closely with CCC International Office Lobby & Advocacy team working on EU matters to ensure alignment and and coordination in work;
• To ensure consistent and coherent lobby & advocacy work aligned with other areas of work within the network.

Competences and skills

• Three years of experience with EU lobby and advocacy and/or lobby and advocacy towards inter-governmental organisations or national governments, and working in and with networks or coalitions;
• Fluency in both spoken and written English is required;
• Good communication, writing and networking skill;
• Proven ability to lead an ambitious lobby & advocacy strategy towards EU policy makers and/or other policy makers;
• Ability to write compelling position papers and lobby proposals;
• Process-oriented and capacity to collaborate with a wide variety of organisations based everywhere in Europe, and across the world, working in a flat network structure;
• Proven ability in network mobilisation, coordination and in developing processes and initiating consultations. Experience with active concensus decision making processes is a significant advantage;
• The candidate is willing to travel 5-6 times a year for meetings with members and partners in the coalition;
• Experience with campaigning is a significant advantage, as well as knowledge of the garment industry and labour rights.

What we offer

• The opportunity to work in a non-hierarchical, vibrant and diverse global network to structurally improve working conditions and support the empowerment of manufacturing workers in global garment and sportswear supply chains;
• A one-year contract with the possibility of extension for another year, 2,5 days per week;
• Based in Belgium, mix of homeworking and working at the Clean Clothes Campaign International Office in Brussels;
• The salary level is set at 3,792 EUR on the basis of 36 hours a week (full time) plus 8% holiday allowance. For this position this means 2,107 EUR gross per month for 20 hours a week, plus holiday allowance. Due to our policy of equality, the salary is not negotiable;
• A fully paid for pension plan, 13th month, net fixed allowance of € 100, eco cheques, food allowance cheques, contribution towards trade union membership, reimbursement of commuting costs (up to a fixed amount) and an individual training budget;
• 5 weeks holiday plus the days between Christmas and New Year.

The candidate should have residence and work permit for Belgium.
