Technical Adviser (m/f/d)

Located in the heart of Brussels European district, GEODE is now recruiting a Technical Adviser (m/f/d) to join our small and dynamic team

Starting date: Immediate start

The selected candidate will primarily work on the technical aspects of the European electricity and gas distribution networks and their cooperation with transmission system operators’ joint development and implementation of Network Codes, joint Network Development Plans scenarios, etc.). Depending on the candidate’s profile, further topics might include digitalisation and smart grids (including cybersecurity), data access and data management, storage, metering, distributed flexibility and the integration of renewables, network operation and e-mobility.

This job offers a great opportunity to combine one’s technical background and knowledge with the realities of European policymaking. The selected candidate will get involved in the more technical aspect of EU regulation of the energy sector, interact with a wide range of experts and stakeholders, expand her/his professional network, while also making use of soft & personal skills in a multicultural work environment.

Main tasks:

• Support the Secretariat in GEODE’s activities related to the European energy sector – mainly electricity and gas distribution.
• Represent GEODE in relevant platforms and meetings with European decision-makers and stakeholders in the energy sector, chiefly related to Network Codes and the cooperation of transmission and distribution system operators.
• Work in close cooperation with GEODE’s members (technical experts) and leverage their expertise.
• Coordinate Expert Groups meetings, activities, and deliverables.
• Deliver input to public consultations and further GEODE members’ interests.
• Support and coordinate the drafting of GEODE publications and key messages, in particular on the above-mentioned topics.
• Analyse and debrief GEODE’s members from relevant European energy sector reports and studies.

Specific requirements:

• Degree in a technical field, preferably in electrical engineering or civil engineering
• At least 2 – 3 years of experience in a job with a strong power systems component
• Previous experience in European affairs (e.g., industry association) and knowledge of EU policy making is a plus
• Knowledge and interest in energy policy and its technical aspects, as well as understanding of power systems across Europe.
• Language skills: Excellent English (native-speaker level), German: working proficiency will be considered a definitive advantage
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Strong organisational skills, flexibility, responsibility
• Ability to work both independently and in a team

Conditions:

• Belgian employment contract
• Occasional travelling outside Belgium might be required
