The Center for Data Innovation—a fervently pro-innovation technology policy think tank—is seeking a policy analyst to focus on digital policy issues in the EU.

The ideal applicant should not only be an excellent researcher who can quickly produce high-quality written content, but also an engaging public speaker and social media pundit who is committed to advancing data-driven innovation to spur economic growth and improve quality of life. The applicant should have a deep understanding of the existing tech policy debates in Brussels, including issues such as artificial intelligence, data protection, content moderation, platform regulation, cybersecurity, and technology adoption, and be willing to use evidence and logic to challenge conventional wisdom when appropriate.

This position will ideally be based in Brussels and be hired on a renewable annual contract.

Please note that due to uncertainties about the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, applicants must have their own computer, a broadband Internet connection, and a safe and appropriate place to telework.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Write reports, blog posts, op-eds, and responses to consultations on relevant European digital policy issues.
  • Regularly contribute to the Center’s successful series of interviews “5 Questions with a Data Innovator” to highlight different stories from Europe about how data innovation is changing government and industry.
  • Organize, host, and speak at conferences, panel discussions, debates, and other policy events.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders involved in digital policy, including European policymakers, thought leaders, media, and other key influencers.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate degree (or equivalent experience) in public policy, economics, political science, law, statistics, information science, computer science, or a related field.
  • Relevant professional experience with a clear track record of success analyzing public policy issues and educating policymakers about legislative or regulatory solutions.
  • Demonstrated experience and interest in technology policy.
  • Superior English communication skills, both oral and written, with a proven record of writing, clear, succinct, and persuasive research papers, op-eds, blog posts, and other materials for an audience of policymakers.
  • Excellent research, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Highly proactive and flexible, with an ability to work on multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to network and build relationships with outside organizations
