Inclusion in the labor market: The new law from the BMAS

The federal government has presented a new draft law to improve inclusion in the labor market. More information is available here.

The job market is often hard for people with disabilities to get into. To change this, the German government has come up with a new bill that aims to make sure people with disabilities can take part in working life “on equal terms and with self-determination.” At the same time, the law is meant to make support more targeted and break down discriminatory structures. It also offers a solution to the shortage of skilled workers: if more people with disabilities participated in the labor market, this could mean a gain in qualified skilled workers.

The draft bill was drawn up under the leadership of the Federal Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs and subsequently approved by the cabinet. It has now been submitted to the Bundestag for parliamentary approval. The full text of the “Act to Promote an Inclusive Labor Market” is available here.
