FIDE - Federation for Innovation in Democracy is looking for an
The Federation for Innovation in Democracy - Europe (FIDE) is an international non-profit organization based in Brussels (Belgium) working to increase the involvement of everyday citizens in policymaking at all government levels in Europe. Our main approach to achieving this goal is through the use of deliberative democratic methods. FIDE brings together democratic innovators from all over Europe to advise governments and policymakers on best practices in this field. We also advocate and communicate through different channels to increase awareness and support for these methods among policymakers, influencers, and the public at large. Our trainings and events offer a place for practitioners of deliberative democracy to connect and elevate the field together. FIDE curates the best available existing research and acts as a documentation center for all aspects of deliberative democratic processes and civic lotteries. As the Events and Communications Trainee at FIDE, your primary responsibility will be to provide support in managing and coordinating various activities related to our ongoing events, projects, and communications, including international conferences and the capacity-building deliberative schools. Working closely with our Communication Team, you will play a key role in ensuring the successful execution of initiatives and the achievement of our established objectives.
Contribute to event organisation, including logistics, travel arrangements, venue, accommodation, registrations, liaising with participants and speakers, invoicing and communications planning.
Support the communications work, updating the website, contributing to the newsletter, and our social media channels.
Support projects by attending calls, taking minutes, and preparing reports.
Maintain and update internal documents to ensure coordination and accurate information.
Format presentations, documents, and social media updates for external audiences.
Administration work.
Any other duties that might be required considering the main purpose of the position.
Your will also engage in tasks to support the work of our affiliated organisation, FIDE – North America.
We are looking for a young professional with a social science and/or event management background who is interested in developing communications and organisational skills. The range of tasks will vary from preparing event logistics, editing documents and visuals to taking minutes. Curiosity to learn and develop new skills is key. You will not be tied to a set of tasks. These will evolve and vary throughout your traineeship. Part of your time will also be devoted to supporting administrative tasks.
University degree in political science, humanities, journalism, any other social sciences, and/or strong evidence of professional experience in event management.
You want to explore a career path in communications, event management, and related fields.
Basic knowledge and interest in deliberative democracy.
Graphic Design skills (Figma, Adobe Products)
Strong analytical and organisational skills
Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a team
Excellent oral and written communication skills in English. Knowledge of another European language would be an asset.
EU-citizen or Belgian residence permit ASSETS
Camera skills: event pictures and video recording.
Video Editing skills: Adobe Premiere Pro
Six-month traineeship contract, starting as soon as possible. Possibility to renew it for another six months.
Full-time position carried out at FIDE's office in Brussels, we expect you to come to the office twice a week.
Remuneration of approximately 1,200€ net per month.

FIDE will provide you with a Belgian trainee contract ('convention d'immersion professionnelle'). The CIP requirements condition the selected candidate to live in Brussels or be willing to move here for the duration of the contract.
