(temporary employment contract - 6 months)
The European Federation of Journalists (EFJ) is looking for a Project Communications Officer to join a diverse team of eight staff based in Brussels for a period of 6 months (maternity cover).
The EFJ is the largest journalists’ organisation in Europe representing 75 national journalists’ trade unions and professional associations in 44 countries. It is recognised by the European Union and the Council of Europe as the representative voice of journalists in Europe.
The Project Communications Officer will work on a diverse range of issues related to journalism, media freedom and trade union movement.
You will be responsible for implementing communications of EU-funded projects and related activities under the supervision of the project managers, including:
The Voices Journalism Festival (ongoing). Responsibilities will include leading regular communications meetings with the Consortium, promoting the Festival’s fourth edition (Greece, November 2026), doing on-site social media communications and follow-up.
Stand Up for Journalism (starting October 2026). Responsibilities will include writing articles/press releases, creating visual/campaign materials and promotion of specific activities (from October 2026).
IMPACT - Independent Media Promoting Accountability, Community, and Trust in European Democracy (ongoing). Responsibilities will include writing articles/press releases/newsletters/advocacy papers to promote EU journalists’ values and fundamental rights, promote EFJ members’ national projects, communications and outreach impact report.
And any other ad hoc project related communications.
Communications on political advocacy may be requested occasionally.
Proven and significant professional experience of at least two years experience in project communications
Excellent writing and communications skills
Knowledge of EU-projects and requirements
Good understanding of the journalism sector and media freedom issues in Europe
Experience in managing website (Wordpress) and social media
High command of English, native level (any other language is an asset)
Experience in communications for a high-profile event such as a festival
Awareness of the importance of safeguarding journalists’ working conditions
Strong team spirit
Proactivity, autonomy, creativity hands-on
Flexible remote work (up to two days per week)
Remuneration range: 2,400-2,700 EUR

Candidates must be available to start on 1 August 2026.
