Institute for Peace Research and Security Policy

The Institute for Peace Research and Security Policy at the University of Hamburg has been researching the conditions for peace and security—globally, regionally, and locally—since 1971. The IFSH’s goal is to actively contribute to peace through outstanding, innovative research. The transfer of knowledge from research to policy and society is a fundamental component of the Institute’s work.

At our locations in Hamburg and Berlin, we currently have about 70 colleagues working in research, knowledge transfer, teaching, and administration. With funding from the City of Hamburg, we are significantly expanding our research and support teams in the coming years as part of a growth strategy. The IFSH is already a place characterized by internationality and diversity. We combine a culture of openness, agility, and flat hierarchies with the reputation of an established and well-connected research institution.
