Swiss Cycling is the most successful summer Olympic sports federation in the country. In Tokyo in 2021, Swiss cyclists made history, having won 17 Olympic medals since Sydney in 2000.
However, Swiss Cycling’s scope extends far beyond elite sport, as our overview reveals:
In the school project ‘bikecontrol’, children and young people learn in a safe environment (e.g. a playground or field) how to ride a bike safely and navigate road traffic later on.
At the Swiss Cycling Academy 4 Kids, children and young people learn to master their bikes with the help of the Velopass.
Across the country, up-and-coming young athletes are supported at the 18 regional centres, with around 500 young people taking part in the talent scouting days each year.
In the #fastandfemaleSUI development project, female cyclists are given the opportunity to indulge their shared passion amongst their peers and learn useful cycling skills from expert women.
Swiss Cycling advocates for the interests of all cyclists at a political level – particularly in the area of infrastructure. This ranges from local bike trails to national legislation such as the Cycle Paths Act.
At Swiss Cycling Guide, mountain bike instructors are trained to achieve professional accreditation. Demand for riding technique lessons and guided tours is steadily increasing, and the range of services is being expanded accordingly.
Swiss Cycling, in collaboration with Youth+Sport, offers training and further education in nine cycling disciplines. The J+S career path leads from young people participating in sport to committed J+S leaders, and from experienced J+S leaders to J+S experts or qualified coaches.
Swiss Cycling trains commissaires in all cycling disciplines, who will later serve as referees at national and international competitions.
With the “Engine Check” developed by the Department of Sports Science, performance-oriented cyclists can assess their own fitness levels and define their training zones – free of charge, on over 30 test routes.
Cycling is the most popular leisure sport in Switzerland. As the national federation, we promote cycling and the sport of cycling in all its forms, without any form of exclusion. Our culture is based on six values that guide us – and help us define our strategy.
Passion is a driving force behind our daily actions. Sport evokes emotions; we live these emotions.
Commitment underpins everything we do. We strive to create the best possible conditions for cyclists of all types and ages.
Expertise is a cornerstone of our philosophy: we place great emphasis on training and set the highest standards for quality and professionalism. Whatever we do, we do it properly.
Under our umbrella, eight sports – some of which are fundamentally different – are practised at a wide range of competitive and recreational levels. Cycling has something to offer everyone. It is diverse – and so are we.
Standing still is going backwards – we draw inspiration from the wisdom of Confucius. We act innovatively, invest in sports science, create new models and formats, and keep our finger on the pulse of the times.
Emotions lead to identification, and identification fosters a sense of community. We see ourselves as inclusive team players, nurturing a sense of togetherness – we are here for everyone.
We base our actions on the Code of Conduct and the Ethics Charter of Swiss Olympic. Fairness is our highest priority; we embody the Spirit of Sport.
We strictly reject doping and other unauthorised substances and methods designed to enhance performance. Equally, we condemn all actions aimed at gaining an unfair advantage. Swiss Cycling imparts knowledge, raises awareness, fosters commitment and influences behaviour and conditions within organised sport. We support all efforts aimed at monitoring and ensuring compliance with anti-doping regulations.
