Animal welfare. Worldwide.
FOUR PAWS is the global animal welfare organization for animals under direct human influence, which identifies abuses, rescues animals in distress, and protects them.
Founded in Vienna in 1988 by Heli Dungler and friends, the organization is committed to a world in which people treat animals with respect, compassion, and understanding. With offices in Australia, Belgium, Bulgaria, Germany, France, Cambodia, Kosovo, the Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland, South Africa, Thailand, Ukraine, the USA, the United Kingdom, and Vietnam, as well as 13 wildlife rescue centers and partner projects worldwide, FOUR PAWS provides rapid assistance and long-term solutions.
FOUR PAWS' sustainable campaigns and projects focus on pets such as stray dogs and cats, farm animals, and wild animals such as bears, big cats, orangutans, and elephants that are kept in inappropriate conditions and in disaster and conflict areas.
We actively campaign for the humane treatment of stray dogs and cats, as well as for better living conditions for domestic and farm animals. We establish and operate rescue centers around the world where wild animals rescued from abusive captivity can find a species-appropriate home.
FOUR PAWS works in a solution-oriented manner and offers animals in need rapid, first-hand assistance. The aim is to achieve and establish changes in politics, business, and society for the benefit of animals – through projects, campaigns, and educational work. Our activities are based on thorough research. FOUR PAWS works on a scientific basis and cooperates closely with experts, particularly in the fields of medicine, agriculture, biology, and law.
