
Many employers still advertise “free water” or “punctual salary payments” – but real benefits look different. An HR expert explains why such superficial advantages are actually harmful and what modern benefits really entail.
Free water and punctual salary payments as benefits in job advertisements?
What some employers still market as additional benefits is, in reality, only the absolute minimum. A real benefit means that employers consciously and voluntarily go beyond the legal or organizational minimum to offer their employees genuine added value.
HR business partner Karoline Gutensohn agrees and presents her top 4 “bullsh*t benefits” on LinkedIn. Her thesis: Anyone who lists such bogus benefits misses the real point of modern employer attractiveness. Because today's job seekers expect more than coffee and water. Instead, they are attracted by offers that take their needs seriously and noticeably improve their quality of life – whether it's support for gym memberships, mental health initiatives, working models that adapt to individual circumstances, or a company pension plan.
