Skilled workers through care

Sustainability and corporate culture are becoming increasingly important for attracting skilled workers.

Attracting and retaining skilled workers is one of the most pressing political and economic challenges that the new federal government must address immediately. The DEKRA Occupational Safety Report 2025 provides an important perspective on this issue by highlighting the connection between sustainability, corporate culture, and employee health protection. The report shows that employees increasingly value employers who take sustainability seriously and cultivate a strong “culture of care.” More than half of those surveyed feel that their company makes a noticeable effort to ensure their well-being. The DEKRA report also shows that companies with a caring corporate culture tend to have fewer sick days. Companies with a strong “culture of care” that invest in comprehensive occupational safety and health promotion are thus positioning themselves as significantly more attractive on the labor market. This investment in the well-being and safety of employees is therefore not only a matter of responsibility, but also a strategically wise decision to attract and retain qualified specialists in the long term.

  • Top salaries: On Labor Day, Oxfam published an analysis showing a wide gap between CEO and employee salaries. While the median salaries of global CEOs rose by 50% between 2019 and 2024, global real wages grew by only 0.9%.

  • Inclusive labor market: The magazine “Die neue Norm” outlines crucial steps toward an inclusive labor market. These steps range from more effective transition management and the strengthening of inclusive companies to demands for unbureaucratic support and a reform of vocational training.

  • Working hours & burnout: According to a new IAB study, longer working hours promote burnout symptoms in women. In contrast, among men, who work an average of 8.5 hours more per week than women, the proportion of people with burnout symptoms is significantly lower.
