#VoiceOfDiversity: This was the slogan for yesterday's 12th German Diversity Day. The annual day of action, which takes place every May, was initiated by the Charta der Vielfalt e.V. (Diversity Charter Association) and aims to raise awareness of diversity in the workplace while helping to break down prejudices. Founded in 2006, Charta der Vielfalt e.V. is an initiative by employers who want to promote diversity in companies. More than 5,000 companies have signed the eponymous “Charter of Diversity” document, thereby committing themselves to valuing and promoting diversity in their companies.
Diversity Day was launched in 2012 and has since stood for inclusion, diversity, and the reduction of discrimination. To this end, companies and organizations are called upon to plan and implement events and campaigns on the topic of diversity. These do not have to take place on Diversity Day itself – rather, it serves as an occasion to plan campaigns throughout the year. This year's formats include workshops, networking events, and lectures, as well as film screenings and targeted social media posts. For example, Autobahn GmbH in Berlin organized events on the topic of invisible disabilities with the aim of promoting inclusion within its own company. If you are interested, we currently have a job opening for a consultant (m/f/d) for policy tasks at Autobahn GmbH. Other participating companies and institutions include the BMW Group, various universities and colleges, and the PROUT AT WORK Foundation.
This year, the Diversity Charter, as the initiator, is particularly emphasizing the role of Diversity Day in light of increasing anti-democratic sentiments: The day of action is intended to send a clear signal against such trends. Advocating for diversity and against discrimination is more important than ever this year.
