HelpAge International is the secretariat to a global network of organisations promoting the right of all older people to lead dignified, healthy and secure lives.
HelpAge International is a global NGO that supports older people in claiming their rights, combating prejudice, and overcoming poverty so they can live lives that are honorable, secure, full of activity, and in good health.
In order to create a global network that supports senior citizens around the world, HelpAge International was founded in 1983 by five organizations from Canada, Colombia, Kenya, India, and the United Kingdom.
Currently, HelpAge International has 158 members and operates in 86 nations. HelpAge advocates for and collaborates with older people through community projects, research programs, and lobbying governments to change policies. The organization works on topics like rights, health, social protection, HIV and AIDS, work, and issues like catastrophe risk reduction and climate change that have an impact on older people globally.
