How does Germany fare as an immigration country compared to other countries? The Bertelsmann Foundation has investigated this question.
Germany is an open and attractive country for skilled immigration – and yet it is becoming increasingly unpopular among foreign professionals. This is the conclusion of a study by the Bertelsmann Foundation: in collaboration with the OECD, its 38 member states were examined in terms of the conditions that make them attractive to skilled migrants. Germany ranks 15th, partly due to sluggish digitization and hesitant naturalization practices. But factors such as visa issuance and society's approach to diversity also play a role. Incidentally, the frontrunners are Canada, the US, France, the UK, and Ireland. According to the study, these five countries offer the best conditions for foreign skilled workers. For Germany, it remains to be seen whether the planned traffic light coalition reform on skilled worker immigration will improve the situation.
