AlgorithmWatch CH is a politically and religiously independent civil society organization dedicated to ensuring that technology in general, and algorithmic systems in particular, benefit people—and make societies more just, democratic, inclusive, and sustainable.

Its goal is to ensure that everyone—not just a select few—benefits from the use of algorithmic systems. In doing so, the organization advocates for democracy and the rule of law, freedom over surveillance, human rights and equality, as well as a sustainable way of life.

Specifically, AlgorithmWatch CH develops tools to analyze algorithmic decision-making processes, explains how they work and their power structures to the public and decision-makers, develops evidence-based frameworks for transparency and accountability, and draws public attention to abuses and discriminatory effects. Its positions are based on professional research guided by high standards, and funding is accepted only if the organization’s independent and objective work is preserved.

The organization is part of the AlgorithmWatch network and is supported by, among others, the Mercator Switzerland Foundation, the Christoph Merian Foundation, and other foundations.
