CARE Austria, an association for development cooperation and humanitarian aid, was founded in 1986. As a non-profit organization, we are politically and religiously independent and currently provide assistance in 28 countries. Our team consists of 45 employees.
In all its projects, CARE Austria pursues one overriding principle: helping people to help themselves! With the full participation of those affected, CARE creates conditions under which people can help themselves. And in doing so, ultimately makes itself redundant.
CARE is one of the world's largest international aid organizations. Over 11,500 employees worldwide, 95% of whom are based directly in the project countries, are working toward the vision of a world without poverty. CARE has consultative status with the United Nations and is politically and religiously independent. In 2020, emergency aid and development projects were supported in 104 countries, with more than 92.3 million people worldwide benefiting from CARE projects. CARE International now consists of 14 independent national member organizations. These include: Australia, Denmark, Germany, France, Great Britain, India, Japan, Canada, the Netherlands, Norway, Austria, Peru, Thailand, and the USA. In addition, there are candidates for membership in Egypt, Indonesia, Morocco, the Caucasus, the Czech Republic, Luxembourg, and an affiliated organization in Sri Lanka.
CARE Austria carries out projects independently, but also regularly supports the project work of CARE International. In 2020, CARE International's projects benefited 92.3 million people in 104 countries. CARE Austria has supported 80 projects in 28 countries.
