Made for practical application

Since its foundation in 2003, the Hamburg Media School (HMS) has been operating in the creative field between academic education, art and practical application. Here, particularly talented young people are trained and educated for their leap into the artistic, economic and academic centres of the digital and media industry.

The HMS curriculum focuses on the fields of management, journalism and film and ranges from state-recognised university master's programmes and a bachelor's degree in digital media to part-time continuing education programmes. In addition, the HMS supports the digital transformation through a variety of research projects: in collaboration with renowned partners, it produces trend reports, scientific papers and application-oriented commissioned studies.

HMS is organised as a public-private partnership: in addition to the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, the University of Hamburg and the University of Fine Arts Hamburg, more than 50 companies, primarily from the media sector, are involved as donors and sponsors. Close links with the digital and media industries and with training and research partners ensure interdisciplinary, scientifically sound and practice-oriented teaching. Small class sizes ensure personal contact between students and teachers and intensive supervision.

At the Hamburg Art and Media Campus, the Hamburg Media School is also locally integrated into a dense network of universities, companies and creative professionals. The TV and radio station TIDE, which is supported by the HMS, provides a modern media infrastructure.
