Who We Are

We are the national agency for promoting exchange and mobility in education. On behalf of the federal government and the cantons, we provide financial support for projects such as class exchanges, exchange semesters, and collaborations between institutions. We have a clear vision: for all young people to participate in an exchange during their education.

Since our founding in 2017, we have been the center of excellence for exchange, mobility, and cooperation. Approximately 50 employees currently work in our offices in Bern.

What We Do

Funding Opportunities

Movetia supports exchange, mobility, and cooperation projects. Swiss institutions and organizations that wish to carry out an exchange project can apply to us for financial support. We offer funding opportunities for all levels of education:

  • School Education: Elementary School, Lower Secondary Level, and Upper Secondary Level (high schools, specialized secondary schools)

  • Vocational education: training companies, vocational schools, professional associations

  • Adult education: adult education centers, organizations for basic education, libraries

  • Higher education and advanced vocational education: universities, colleges, universities of applied sciences, and advanced vocational education institutions

  • Extracurricular youth work: youth organizations, community-based youth programs

Our programs include individual exchanges and group meetings—both in Switzerland and internationally. We support children, adolescents, and young adults in education, as well as teachers, trainers, lecturers, youth workers, and other staff in the education sector. Educational institutions or youth work organizations can apply for funding for collaborative projects.

The funding is provided by the federal government: the Federal Council and Parliament approve it every four years as part of the Message on the Promotion of Education, Research, and Innovation and the Message on Culture.

Promotion

In addition to our funding programs, we are also responsible for promoting exchange and mobility. We provide information about our funding opportunities to stakeholders in the education system. Through our national campaign learningbygoing, we reach out directly to young people and encourage them to participate in an exchange. With events such as the National Exchange Week, which was held for the first time in 2023, we raise public awareness of the topic of exchange. In this way, we amplify the messages throughout the educational landscape. Our goal is to bring about social change: exchanges should be a natural part of every educational program.
