Schweizerische Gewerkschaftsbund SGB

About us

The Swiss Trade Union Federation (SGB) is Switzerland's largest employee organisation. It comprises 20 individual trade unions representing a total of around 370,000 members.

The Swiss Trade Union Federation

The SGB is non-denominational and politically independent.

The SGB operates at federal level. Its tasks and responsibilities focus on economic and social policy. The SGB represents workers' interests in numerous federal commissions. It also does this by submitting petitions and consultations to the Federal Council and federal offices. The SGB decides on slogans for referendums and conducts voting campaigns. It launches its own initiatives and, if necessary, calls for referendums on draft legislation.

The sections of the SGB trade unions are grouped together in cantonal and local trade union federations. They perform a similar function in cantonal matters as the SGB does at the national level.
