About us

The Sozialverband VdK Deutschland e. V., based in Berlin, is the largest social association in Germany, serving as the umbrella organisation for 13 regional associations with 2.2 million members. It advocates for social justice, advises its members on social law and represents them in social courts. It offers a home to anyone who wants to volunteer. Whether young or old, healthy or sick, with or without disabilities, pensioners, patients, people in need of care and their relatives, or simply socially committed – everyone is welcome at the VdK social welfare association.

The VdK campaigns for people with disabilities and chronic illnesses, those in need of care and their relatives, single parents and pensioners. It relies on competent volunteers: over 60,000 people are active in the association. Without these helpers, who embody solidarity and humanity, the VdK social association would be inconceivable. One of the greatest strengths of the VdK social association is its independence. The association is politically and religiously neutral. It does not engage in party politics, but instead advocates for those who would otherwise be largely ignored. As a recognised non-profit association, the VdK social association is financed by membership fees, which allows it to remain financially independent of third-party interests.
