About us

“The strength of the people is measured by the welfare of the weak,” states our federal constitution. We stand for a society in which everyone can develop freely. A society in which there is a social safety net that prevents anyone from falling through the cracks. The SP wants an economy that is there for the people and not the other way around. Anyone who works in wealthy Switzerland should be able to live on their wages. We are convinced that we will get further if we don't just look out for ourselves. Switzerland has a solid social safety net and good public infrastructure. The SP has contributed a great deal to this. Without the SP, there would be no AHV, no maternity insurance, and no women's suffrage.

For over 125 years, the SP has been making politics for everyone, not just a privileged few. We say yes to a Switzerland of cooperation rather than confrontation.

But we do not want to rest on our laurels. We are convinced that Switzerland can become more equitable, innovative, and progressive. If we consistently focus on renewable energies, we will protect our environment and create sustainable and innovative jobs. If we focus on education and integration, we will create opportunities and prevent unemployment. If we invest in cooperative housing construction, we will help to curb speculation and ensure affordable housing. In short, the SP pursues policies for everyone, not just for the few.
