About us

With over 1,700 member companies, more than 90 percent of the chemical and pharmaceutical industry's sales in Germany are represented in the German Chemical Industry Association (VCI). In 2020, the industry generated sales of just under €190 billion and employed over 464,000 people. With 22 trade associations covering all product areas of the industry and eight regional associations, the VCI is one of the three largest industry associations in Germany. In addition to its headquarters in Frankfurt am Main, the association also has an office in Berlin and a European office in Brussels.

Tasks

The VCI represents the economic interests of German chemical and pharmaceutical companies and German subsidiaries of foreign corporations vis-à-vis important target groups: politicians, authorities, other sectors of the economy, science, and the media. Committees, expert committees, working groups, and project groups develop the industry's positions on topics such as energy, climate protection and raw materials, communication, sustainability, product and plant safety, law and taxes, environmental protection, transport, economics, science, and research. The VCI's funding organization, the Chemical Industry Fund, supports young scientists, basic chemical research, and chemistry education in schools.
