(4 days per week), based in Amsterdam or Brussels, starting as soon as possible.

Job Description:

The Lobby & Advocacy Coordinator will develop and implement high-level and impact-oriented lobby and advocacy strategies based on the CCC Network Global Strategic Framework themes towards companies, governments, international institutions, the business and human rights community, and other relevant (multi-stakeholder) industry initiatives.

They will develop key lobby messages, talking points and briefings, represent the CCC International Office (IO) or the CCC network at meetings, public events, negotiations, delegations and working groups.

They will be part of the small Lobby and Advocacy team, which brings together advocacy and campaign actions and priorities from other teams to form a coherent strategy, ensure there is consistency in messaging and approach, and develop and maintain effective relationships with key decision makers and allies in the global labour and human rights movement.

They will work with the other teams at the International Office (IO) of CCC as well as the entities in the CCC network (including national and regional CCC coalitions and CCC Working International Groups), to ensure that strategies and recommendations are developed and well coordinated, and to enable and support colleagues and entities in carrying out lobby and advocacy work towards policy-makers, industry initiatives and garment companies.

They will monitor key developments in the field, proactively communicate such developments to the network, and where required develop and provide a CCC Network or IO position.

They will quickly have the possibility to represent CCC at high-level meetings and events and make an important contribution to CCC’s policies and inputs to global debates on the development and implementation of responsible business conduct.

Please note that CCC is a small, hands-on, flat organisation where staff is expected to contribute to the development of the organisation by sharing overhead tasks where needed, and participate actively in policy development.

Profile/You have:

  • At least 5 years experience with impact-oriented, high-level advocacy and/or campaigning work. Experience in business and human rights, labour rights, social justice and/or global value chains is a significant advantage;
  • Proven capacity to research, develop and articulate key messages catering to and convincing broad and different audiences. Capacity to reach out to partners, and allies but equally capacity to engage with skeptics and adversaries;
  • Strong analytical, writing, editing and verbal skills for communicating with broad and diverse audiences. Public speaking experience is a plus;
  • Proven ability to build and cultivate strong relationships and work in coalitions, with a demonstrable affinity with the social and labour movements;
  • Ability to work with efficiency and diplomacy, while being effective as a collaborator in complex internal and external organisations;
  • Easily able to balance competing priorities and identify when to escalate an issue or call out a risk. Creative, energetic and innovative approach to identifying solutions with a sense of responsibility and perseverance;
  • Fluency in English is required. Other EU and Asian languages are a plus;
  • Solid understanding or experience of key concepts and developments in one or a number of the following fields is a plus:
    • Human rights due diligence, including national, EU, OECD and UN efforts towards responsible business conduct (in the garment industry);
    • (Garment) Companies’ own Corporate Social Responsibility and Due Diligence Efforts;
    • EU Trade policy and/or EU sustainability policies;
    • Legal and enforcement tools available on corporate accountability (due diligence laws, OECD National Contact Points, non-judicial grievance mechanisms);
    • Human rights and/or labour rights.

We offer:

  • A dynamic job in a non-hierarchical organisation in which all staff earn the same salary, within an inspiring international network;
  • A temporary contract of 1 year for 4 days (32 hours) a week. Upon satisfactory performance, a permanent contract will follow;
  • The salary level for 2023 is set at € 4.040,- on the basis of 36 hours a week (full-time) plus 8% holiday allowance. For this position this means € 3.591,- gross per month for 32 hours (4 days), plus the holiday allowance. Every year the salaries are adjusted for inflation. Please note that, due to our principle of equality, the salary is not negotiable;
  • A fully paid for pension plan, 36 Euros net telephone allowance, general net allowance 1% of gross pay, contribution towards trade union membership, reimbursement of commuting costs (up to a fixed amount) and an individual training budget;
  • 5 weeks holidays plus the days between Christmas and New Year;
  • The salary level and benefits for Belgian residents will be equivalent to the above.

About Schone Kleren Campagne/Clean Clothes Campaign:

The organisation hosts two teams: the International Office (IO), which supports the CCC global network, and the Dutch Schone Kleren Campagne (SKC), which coordinates CCC activities in the Netherlands. These two teams are supported by IT, HR, Fundraising, Grant Management and Finance specialists. Most employees work in the Amsterdam office, and some in the Brussels office. In total, the organisation employs 27 staff within one legal entity (Stichting Schone Kleren Campagne). The organization has no Executive Director; decision-making is based on consensus and non-hierarchical principles, within a clearly defined framework of self-steering teams. The coordination of organisational matters is performed by a Cross Team Body.

The candidate needs to have residence and work permit for the Netherlands or Belgium. The position is based in Amsterdam or Brussels and partial work from home is allowed. For applicants based in Brussels monthly travel to Amsterdam is required.
