IDF is looking to hire a full-time Communications Assistant to join our team. The Communications Assistant will work from home so residency in Belgium is not a requirement.

The International Diabetes Federation (IDF) is an alliance of over 245 national diabetes associations with two million members in more than 161 countries and territories, IDF has been at the vanguard of global diabetes advocacy for over 50 years.

Purpose of role

The IDF Communications team is responsible for promoting the activities of the Federation and strengthening IDF’s presence on the global stage through global awareness initiatives and campaigns such as World Diabetes Day.

The Communications team is currently seeking a highly motivated individual to support the development and promotion of IDF communication activities and help manage IDF online platforms and social media channels.

Key responsibilities and activities

  • Support communications activities for IDF projects and programmes (e.g. IDF Congress, World Diabetes Day, IDF Diabetes Atlas, IDF School of Diabetes, IDF Advocacy). This includes the creation of deliverables for social media and marketing purposes, stakeholder outreach, preparing reports and event support.
  • Support execution of IDF social media strategy. This includes input into strategy and content development, scheduling and publishing of posts, monitoring social media activity, follower engagement and preparing reports.
  • Support content management of IDF online platforms (e.g. updating website content).
  • Support management of external communications enquiries, in particular for World Diabetes Day.
  • Provide further support as required to the Communications Team and other IDF departments.

Required skills/competencies/experience

  • Bachelor-level or higher qualification (preferably in a communications related field).
  • Excellent or native proficiency (verbal and written) in English.
  • A minimum of two years’ work experience, preferably in a multicultural, international environment.
  • Strong command of Microsoft Office Applications.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Creative thinker, contributes good ideas to team discussions.

Desired skills

  • Near-native competence in Spanish.
  • Proficiency with graphic design (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and video editing (PremierPro or similar) software.
  • Familiarity with developing and executing digital advertising campaigns (Facebook Ads, Google AdWords).
  • Good working knowledge of WordPress.
  • Good working knowledge of website and social media analytical tools (e.g. Google Analytics, Sprout Social, Facebook Insights, Twitter analytics).
