Press Officer (m/f/d)

ICF Next is looking for a full-time Press Officer on behalf of one of its clients, from November 2021 to May 2022. The role is to be performed remotely.

Main responsibilities:

  • Provide expert media advice to senior management in media-related matters;
  • Advise senior management and the spokespersons on written responses to media queries;
  • Support the press team in identifying media opportunities, generating media coverage, servicing the media;
  • Draft clear, concise, and effective press releases, case histories, speeches, articles, op-eds, and other media contributions including broadcast media materials for use by the media (general, specialized, and trade) with the aim of conveying key messages of the organization;
  • Assist staff in writing press releases and other materials for the media; write/edit materials for the immediate and planned release;
  • Identify, training needs and as appropriate implement media training;
  • Organize press conferences, press trips, press events, and interviews; liaise with media contacts, monitor, and analyze media coverage;
  • Maintain and proactively use contacts with Europe’s, and international Tier 1 media to identify opportunities and secure immediate and long-term media coverage;
  • Conduct due diligence and prepare responses to daily media queries;
  • Draft briefings for spokesperson and senior management in preparation for media interviews;
  • Assist and advise where necessary the social media communications;
  • Other editorial and media relations tasks linked to daily press channel management.

Desirable experience and competencies:

  • A seasoned media relations specialist with proven experience/track record in PR and/or journalism;
  • Minimum of five years’ experience as a senior press officer or journalist;
  • Proven editorial skills in both drafting and editing, AV media experience desired;
  • Proven experience of working with Tier one media at European and International levels;
  • Sound understanding of how media coverage can be achieved particularly in Tier 1 media (agenda setting);
  • Proven experience in drafting and implementing effective media strategies and creative ideas for generating media coverage;
  • Working experience at the international level and a good understanding of public service missions;
  • Understanding IP-related matters would be an advantage;
  • Ability to communicate effectively and confidently both orally and in writing with staff, external stakeholders, and the public;
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills, including the ability to turn complex topics and jargon into plain content;
  • English at a native-speaker level. Knowledge of German and French would be an advantage;
  • Strong experience in media relations;
  • Outstanding teamwork and PR skills.
