THE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY

The German Construction Industry Association (HDB), as an umbrella organization of the state-level construction industry associations, is the leading organization of the construction industry in Germany. Together as a family of associations, we are strong at all levels—from the local to the state to the federal level. As the voice of the construction industry in dealings with policymakers, government agencies, and society, we advocate for the industry’s overall interests to strengthen its competitiveness and contribute to Germany’s long-term viability, while ensuring the best possible framework conditions at the federal level, in Europe, and internationally. Our strength lies in our unified front. With ten state associations, we represent large and medium-sized, often family-run companies in the construction industry. Eight trade associations join us as associate members.

BAUINDUSTRIE – A Guarantee of Quality in Construction

As a trade association, we represent the interests of the construction industry vis-à-vis legislators, the government, public administration, European institutions, clients, business organizations, and other social groups. Our goals include a needs-based investment policy by the federal government, states, and municipalities; the proper awarding of public construction contracts; and investment-friendly framework conditions—ranging from public procurement and construction contract law to tax, competition, and corporate law.

As a technical association, we focus on areas where markets for construction companies are either restricted or opened up by technical and professional regulatory frameworks. We contribute to the development of standards and advocate for innovation to address the challenges of sustainability, environmental protection, and climate change. Specialized federal technical departments (BFAs) with concentrated technical expertise form the backbone for advancing our specific professional interests.

As an employers’ association, we serve as a partner in collective bargaining. We negotiate sustainable wage and salary levels on your behalf, as well as all other collective bargaining issues, and conclude collective bargaining agreements. We advocate for compliance with collective bargaining agreements and adherence to the minimum wages stipulated therein, and we are actively involved in both in-company and inter-company training.
