The Mission of Japan to the EU is looking for a Research Assistant to join the Press and Public Diplomacy Section. The starting date for the position is expected to be from mid-April 2026.
1) Main Duties:
Monitoring and compiling daily news updates on key policy developments in the EU relevant to the Mission.
Drafting social media content and monitoring (mainly X).
Maintaining up-to-date contact lists in the context of PR and press work.
Drafting speeches, letters and correspondence in English for the Mission.
Proofreading of official correspondence.
Carrying out research tasks on various topics.
Compiling clear, concise and informative reports on meetings and events in Brussels – e.g. think tank events, conferences, press briefings etc.
Updating the Mission’s official website as instructed.
2) Other Tasks:
Overall support to the Press and Public Diplomacy Section e.g. conducting general administrative tasks, writing/sending letters and emails, drafting lists of participants and contacts with Excel etc.
Carrying out other general administrative tasks as requested.
Assisting Mission’s events including in planning.
3) Requirements:
Work experience with a demonstrated ability and interest in communications, research, analysis, and documentation.
Experience of managing a website and X account.
Native level of English.
A sound knowledge of the functioning of the European institutions and the decision-making process at the EU level would be an asset.
Excellent drafting and editing skills with a strong attention to detail.
Good knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) and Teams.
Ability to legally work in the EU
4) Salary etc.:
2,500€~3,000€ gross per month depending on experience (possibility of increase)
Overtime (in accordance with Belgian legislation
Year-end bonus
Assistance with transport costs
5) Working hours:
Monday to Friday from 9:30 to 17:30
Full time (in accordance with Belgian legislation) 35h/week
6) Place of work:
At the office of the Mission of Japan (in Brussels)
7) Employment contract:
At the end of the fixed-term employment period, a transition to a permanent contract will be discussed depending on the evaluation of the service.
