CERRE, the Centre on Regulation in Europe, is a leading European think tank committed to providing top-quality, policy-relevant research in the fields of regulation in energy, mobility, and the digital economy.
The Senior Communications Officer plays a central role in increasing the visibility and impact of CERRE’s research and policy recommendations. The role is responsible for developing and delivering communications activities that engage policymakers, regulators, industry representatives, academics and other stakeholders across Europe and beyond.
Reporting to the Director of Communications, the role covers the full communications mix including media relations, digital communications, events, webinars and stakeholder outreach. Working closely with colleagues across the organisation, the Senior Communications Officer contributes to the development and implementation of CERRE’s communications strategy, translating complex research into clear and compelling content, and ensuring a consistent and professional external profile.
The Senior Communications Officer works closely with the Events Officer and Junior Communications Officer, helping to coordinate activities and ensure alignment across projects.
Contribute to the development and implementation of CERRE’s communications strategy, with a strong focus on media outreach and positioning
Build and mantain relationships with journalists, EU policy media and relevant communications counterparts across Europe
Proactively pitch CERRE’s research and experts, organise media briefings and interviews, and coordinate embargoed releases
Draft and disseminate press releases, newsletters and other media-facing content
Monitor policy developments and sector news to identify communications opportunities
Oversee & develop CERRE’s digital channels, ensuring content quality, consistency, audience engagement and performance across the website, social media platforms (LinkedIn, YouTube, Bluesky) and newsletters
Edit and proofread a range of communications materials, including reports, newsletters and event content
Manage the production of digital assets: short videos, infographics, audiograms and animated content
Identify new formats, tools and approaches to enhance CERRE’s outreach and engagement
Manage external contractors and service providers as needed
Prepare quarterly performance reports, project impact reports and communications benchmarking analyses
Organise and oversee the successful launch of CERRE’s research outputs, coordinating communications across channels
Support the delivery of high-profile events, conferences and webinars, including technical execution on Zoom, LinkedIn Live and YouTube Live
University degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, European Affairs, or a related field.
3–5 years of professional experience in communications, public affairs, media, or stakeholder engagement, ideally in a policy, research, or think tank environment.
Demonstrated experience in media relations, external communications, and content creation across multiple channels.
Strong understanding of EU institutions and the Brussels policy and media landscape.
Proven ability to translate complex policy topics into clear, engaging, and audience-focused content.
Experience managing digital communication channels and tools, including website CMS, newsletters, social media platforms, advertising tools, and analytics.
Experience with visual and video content creation tools such as Canva, CapCut, Adobe Creative Suite, or equivalent.
Experience in event and webinar production is an asset.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; French is a strong advantage.
Highly organised, reliable, and able to manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines.
Collaborative and professional, with the confidence to engage effectively with senior stakeholders, academics, policymakers, journalists, and external partners.
