Technological developments such as generative AI are changing the demands placed on workers—what skills will be important in the future?
Hardly any other technological development is currently shaping the world of work as much as generative AI. A recent report by Indeed shows that routine tasks are increasingly being automated, while skills such as willingness to learn, flexibility, and innovative strength are becoming more important. Rather than replacing entire professions, AI is primarily shifting job content and creating new fields of activity.
In line with this, the new newsletter Work/Code is being launched today: Together with experts from business and science, Markus Albers and Daniel Florian examine the opportunities and challenges that AI brings for the future of work – and how companies and employees can respond.
We were also interested in the following topics:
48-hour week: While large companies welcome a corresponding reform of the Working Hours Act, smaller companies are responding cautiously to the proposals, as a Randstad survey shows.
Experience counts: As Der Spiegel reports, the importance of older employees is growing. More and more people are working beyond the age of 60 – their experience is becoming increasingly valuable to companies. At the same time, the picture is ambivalent: alongside growing employment, unemployment is also rising in this age group.
Women in the labor market: Since 1991, female employment in Germany has risen by around 30 percent. According to the Federal Statistical Office, the rate is now 74% – and has reached the same level in both east and west Germany, reports Die Zeit.
Start-ups in low spirits: Only 57% of founders still rate Germany as a positive location. In 2023, the figure was 90% by comparison. While bureaucracy and access to capital are criticized, the location is becoming more attractive compared to the US.
