The World Economic Forum in times of crisis

How is the World Economic Forum proceeding in the current crisis? We took a closer look at this in this week's editorial.

The annual World Economic Forum in Davos is not looking promising these days, as a recently published report by leading economists notes. Recession and high inflation continue to be predicted for Europe. In Germany alone, the inflation rate in 2022 was higher than ever before in the history of the Federal Republic. At the same time, the country continues to decline as a business location, according to the ZEW Country Index 2022, which assesses a country's attractiveness for large family businesses based on national and international factors. Germany ranks 18th out of a total of 21 countries. However, there is also a positive record: the number of people in employment is at its highest level since reunification, according to a recent announcement by the Federal Statistical Office. Immigration is cited as the main reason for this. The focus of the first “WEF” since the start of the war is more on political events, writes ZDF. Initial results are also already evident, such as an industrial plan for the European Union presented by EU Commission President von der Leyen. In addition, artificial intelligence has now also arrived in the field of international economics: ChatGPT is extremely present.
