The Department of Political Science at Central European University (CEU), Vienna invites applications for a Department Coordinator position.

Background:

The Department of Political Science at CEU is a close-knit community and consists of more than 20 permanent faculty members and 80 students. The department is committed to academic freedom, equal access to education and collegial self-governance. Our department strives to develop and nurture a scholarly community of faculty and students who engage in a common process of education and research, with special emphasis on contemporary challenges facing society.

We offer a BA program, two master’s programs and a doctoral program in political science. The department’s reputation for excellence in teaching and research has also been acknowledged by professional world university rankings and is currently ranked as one of the top 25 programs globally by QS World University Rankings and 76-100 globally by the Shanghai Ranking Consultancy.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Managing two master’s programs.
  • Administration of admission, course enrollment, teaching schedule, and room assignments.
  • Planning and coordinating the departmental activities.
  • Scheduling and administering exams, defenses.
  • Liaising with other university offices at CEU (Student Records, Budget, Communications, Admissions, Recruitment, Dean of Students, etc.)
  • Providing high-level administrative support to the Head of Department, faculty members, students, and guests.
  • Organizing academic and social events, meetings.
  • Administering faculty projects and supporting student-led research groups.
  • Maintaining and updating databases.
  • Compiling report and evaluations.
  • Booking accommodation and travel.
  • Keeping the departmental website up-to-date.
  • Handling day-to-day technical problems.
  • Participation in the departmental daily operations.

Skills and competencies:

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Working experience in academia ideally in a similar position, or at an international company.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills in English.
  • A strong interest in and ability for working with students and faculty in an international environment.
  • Ability to balance sensitivity towards student needs with respect to ensuring student adherence to university and program regulations.
  • High-level computer literacy and advanced knowledge of the MS Office suite and mastery of databases. Experience with online learning management systems (e.g., Moodle, Blackboard, MS Teams).
  • Excellent organizational and reporting skills.
  • Structured and flexible way of thinking.
  • Ability to work alone and in a team.
  • A precise, proactive and efficient attitude and work ethics.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and take initiative.
  • Ability to follow instructions and meet deadlines.
  • Problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to understand and learn new tasks quickly.
  • Multicultural orientation and open-mindedness.
  • Good interpersonal skills.

Advantages:

Compensation:

We offer a gross annual salary of 42,840 EUR/year as well as a dynamic and international academic environment. The initial contract is for one year with the possibility of renewal.
