Global Lead, Public Policy and Partnerships (m/f/d)

Role Purpose:

In this role, the individual will support the Public Affairs & Issue Management Team in three key areas:

  • As a Global Government Relations and Partnership Manager, you are a key member of the Global Public Affairs Team. Your work directly contributes to achieving our objective to be the most collaborative and trusted team in agriculture by creating and supporting long-term, sustainable value for customers, employees, and stakeholders around the world.
  • This role will directly contribute to Syngenta Group’s License to Operate as a key team member building and developing a clearly defined and measurable engagement strategy with multilateral organizations (e.g., WTO, WHO, FAO, UN) and partner organizations (e.g., WEF, WBCSD) in close collaboration with Regional Public Affairs, Regulatory Affairs, Communication, and other relevant teams. You will take on key relationship management for selected stakeholders and provide support to senior staff to leverage Syngenta’s influence, direct and through partnerships.
  • Working across functions, this role will be critical to evolving our corporate public policy positions and global advocacy work and ensuring that specific deliverables are achieved in support of our business objectives.

Accountabilities:

  • Engagement Strategy preparation and execution (e.g., UN, WBCSD and FAO)
  • Manage, Develop and Review Syngenta Group Public Policy Positions to ensure delivery (platforms, systems, distribution, contributors)
  • Prepare and coordinate delivery of an engagement plan with a range of organizations (e.g., UN, WBCSD, ICC, WEF, WHO and FAO)
  • Review & development of partnerships. Working with the team to identify and maintain key relationships for government affairs at a global level. Manage assigned relationships in close partnership with Global, Regional and Local colleagues in Communication, Marketing, Regulatory Affairs, Stewardship, etc.
  • Lead or contribute to cross-BU and region advocacy efforts on critical global issues
  • Support Syngenta’s participation at global policy events. Leading on the design and delivery of high-profile activities that involve C-suite participation
  • Ensure effective representation of Syngenta Group views and objectives with and through partner organizations
  • Prepare and support senior executives for engagement with government officials

Requirements:

  • A degree, preferably in political science, law, economics, natural sciences, or related field in environmental science/technical competences
  • Minimum of 10 years work experience working in public policy in agriculture/sustainability
  • Experience with third party stakeholders and external customers, and understanding of best practices for partnership development and stakeholder management with proven track record of setting up successful stakeholder outreach and relationship building strategies
  • Extensive experience building advocacy strategies, and an understanding of how to lobby effectively
  • Experience and understanding of working in governmental institutions at a national, regional, and multilateral level
  • Understanding of key international IGOs, NGOs, and industry groups
  • Ability to communicate and interact within diverse environments (employees, influencers, customers, etc.).
  • Ability to build trusted relationships with key external stakeholders, Syngenta senior management and the regions
  • Fluent in English both verbal and written
