About the association

The German Library Association (dbv) represents more than 8,000 libraries with approximately 25,000 employees nationwide, with a membership of over 2,000. Its central concern is to strengthen libraries so that they can provide all citizens with free access to information. The association is committed to the development of innovative library services for science and society. As a political interest group, it supports libraries, particularly in the fields of information literacy and media education, the promotion of reading, and the facilitation of cultural and social participation for all citizens.
