Vision

In many countries, democratic institutions are increasingly being questioned and, in some cases, openly attacked by sections of society.

With Open Parliament TV, we are strengthening trust in parliamentary democracy by making political decision-making processes more transparent, credible, and participatory.

We contribute to a democracy in which

  • the breadth of all political opinions and decisions becomes visible,

  • we learn to appreciate diversity in our society,

  • we learn to engage in dialogue across political and social levels, and

  • we increase the political participation of civil society.

In this way, we can strengthen social cohesion in the long term and shape a vibrant, resilient democracy supported by civil society.

Mission

We advocate for our vision of a trustworthy and credible parliamentary democracy at all political levels (local, regional, national, and international) by increasing the transparency of political work, promoting political education in civil society, and expanding its participation in political processes. We consider the promotion of the digitization of political institutions, processes, and structures to be essential to our mission.

Transparency

We make political work visible. Political discourse, debates, decision-making processes, and the process of creating laws must be transparent and comprehensible at the local, state, federal, and EU levels. We advocate for open interfaces to give civil society free access to data from parliaments.

Education

We promote political education by communicating content from parliamentary debates, providing background information, linking political discourse and debates, and exposing disinformation. We help political institutions build knowledge so that existing structures can be further developed digitally.

Participation

We create opportunities for civil society to participate in politics. By breaking down existing structures, creating new networks, and making data accessible, people can participate in political events, get involved, and join in the discussion. In doing so, we will ensure that these opportunities for participation are designed and implemented in a barrier-free manner.
