Verein für Demokratische Kultur in Berlin (VDK)

The Association for Democratic Culture in Berlin – Initiative for Urban Democracy Development (VDK) e.V. was founded in August 2003 by representatives of civil society organisations and initiatives. The guiding principle of the VDK e.V. is a human rights-oriented democratic culture as a fundamental counter-concept to right-wing extremism, right-wing populism, racism, anti-Semitism and other notions of inequality. The democratic commitment of the VDK projects MBR, RIAS Berlin, Berlin gegen Nazis, Regishut and DiRex is evident both in their everyday practical work on the ground and in their valuable contribution to the political discourse on dealing with right-wing extremism, right-wing populism, racism and anti-Semitism. The standards developed by the projects often serve as a signal in this tense field at local and state level. The VDK e.V. supports its long-standing projects and thus makes an indispensable political contribution.
